Is Zofran Safe During Pregnancy?
Zofran is prescribed fairly often for pregnant woman suffering from nausea. As with anything we put into our bodies, it's important to be informed of the risks.
There is emerging evidence that Zofran may not be as safe as once believed.
When new medications are being prepared to hit the market, they must undergo research and testing. Typically, they're tested on volunteers as part of experimental procedures. Sometimes they're evaluated as part of a medical research project, for which volunteers are paid and agree to subject their bodies to potential risks.
Remember that there is no medicine on the market that has been adequately deemed safe for pregnancy.
Because it's considered unethical to test on pregnant women, they don't take part in these studies. When a medication has been deemed "reasonably safe", it's because there haven't been reports of side effects in those taking it. In some cases, however, there may be risks which simply haven't been recognized or studied yet.
We often don't find out about potentially hazardous side effects until thousands of adverse cases have been reported after the fact.
Something to keep in mind!
